20x20 comic-panel Triptych

I finished this triptych of comic panels the other day for a client. I printed via HP Designjet Z6100 Printer, foam-core mounted and laminated them. Each 20x20 inch piece is individually framed with Nielson style 11 Matte-Black frames. Printing and supplies alone cost $250.

The three panels took me approximately 24 hours (8 hr/panel) over a 1 year period to complete (I work 2 jobs so don't have much free time). It's a depiction of the client's child. I was asked to generate a comic-style (basically the style that I have driven myself into) piece of artwork that represented something I saw in their child.

I first created several sketches of my triptych layout and the client chose the direction they wanted me to go. Then used Illustrator and Photoshop.

Client took delivery today and are very happy.

Surfboard graphic

Created for a good friend. He wanted a large toon-graphic to be laminated on the nose of his surfboard (that was custom built for his son). The graphic was printed and laminated under the clear coat on a short-board.

The circular graphic border decoration is a Samoan tribal pattern called Siapo art. The elements have meanings and stories behind them that represent their families. I was instructed by my friend as to what graphic-icons to use.

Created with Adobe Illustrator @ around 16 hours (went through several updates and variations).

Created sketch, scanned into Photoshop, opened in Illustrator, re-illustrated with mouse and Wacom. Took 16 hours (including 5 hours for the characters, which were created for various Sketch-Of-The-Days images). Its in the style that I've been working on since my BFA thesis, capstone project.
The original is a 27x27 inches (68.58x68.58cm), 300mb file/image. Printing it at Kinkos and framed it for a friend.

ALCHETRAZ.COM (one through three) WIP-comic

These comic panels are from an online comic that I begun to participate in the WIP-COMIC forums of the sketch group at CGtalk.com. Created with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and ImageReady (the online version has limited animatics).
-
It became too labor intensive for me to keep going as I maintain 2-3 jobs to keep my family happy and healthy. So it's currently on hiatus.
-
Many of the ideas in this comic developed from personal long time comic projects and local events. I worked for several years at an analytical-industrial testing laboratory performing many tasks in the chemical and animal labs. The comic was going to reflect my experiences there. The last panel #5 is in reference to a local feud between several politicians over prairie dogs in Nebraska. Senator Ernie Chambers (Omaha, NE) began carrying a toy prairie dog, named "Belvedere", to all his meetings and so another Senator, Ed Schrock (Elm Wood, NE) also began carrying a stuffed prairie dog named "Belvedere Jr." and continually poked fun at Ernie. I appropriately created a THIRD prairie dog named, "Belvedere the 3rd" who was going to trump on all the others by inadvertently bringing peace and harmony amidst maniacal havoc.
